If you’re responsible for the SEO of your website and you’re not yet using Google search console, then you’re making a big mistake! Google Search Console is a free tool by Google, used to submit sitemaps, individual pages for indexing, and various other tools to help you optimize SEO.

Often, many website and business owners only use Google search console for the very basics: submitting that first sitemap. However, there are many, many more features you can make the most of to improve the SEO of your website. Therefore, this blog post will highlight several different features you can use to help optimize your SEO efforts in 2021.

Index pages frequently

Although Google should naturally index your pages and blog posts automatically, sometimes waiting takes a little longer. Therefore, you should get into the habit of manually submitting these new pages and posts to be indexed. This may speed up the process, while also informing Google that you are still publishing new content (or updating), a massive green flag when it comes to SEO.

Use the compare tool on Google search console

One of the most useful but overlooked tools within Google search console is the compare feature. From the performance tab, select the compare tool and then choose a date range, e.g. the last seven or twenty-eight days. From here, you want to select the metrics you wish to view (we recommend clicks and average position).

Once activated, you can now view how well your individual blog posts and pages are performing. If you notice a massive decline in page views, then that post may require a revision to regain traffic. Either way, this is an excellent tool to help you monitor your SEO and blogging efforts.

Page experience metrics

For those that don’t already know, page experience is a crucial factor when it comes to SEO. The better the page experience of your users, the more likely they are to stay, read more blog posts, or perhaps make a purchase or sign-up to your mailing list.

Once on the page, you will see a graph displaying our page experience across all indexed pages. Underneath, you will also find a brief report of your core web vitals, mobile usability, and HTTPS.

If you have errors with these metrics, or room for improvement, Google search console will inform you of these. This allows you to make quick fixes to quickly improve the SEO of your website.

Don’t be afraid to use other features in Google search console!

Finally, don’t be afraid to play around with Google search console and the many features on offer. Many of these features allow you to find areas of improvement, providing you with insight on how to take your SEO efforts to the next level.
