By now, you’ve likely heard of affiliate marketing. However, in the rare chance that you’ve been living under a rock, affiliate marketing is when you advertise other brand’s products in exchange for a commission on any sales. The best example of this is Amazon affiliates, with the affiliates advertising millions of products on their websites, generating income thanks to conversions and commissions.

Affiliate marketing has been around for years. However, in more recent years, it’s gained even more traction. But why is this the case and why is it so popular?

No overhead to get started

For starters, there is very little to no overhead or barrier to entry for affiliate marketing. At most, you require a basic website, however, aside from hosting fees, this is virtually free to set up, so long as you are willing to put in the time.

This is one of the key reasons why affiliate marketing is so popular – it’s for everyone, not for the one percent or the select few.

It’s for everyone

Following on from my previous point, affiliate marketing is for everyone. However, there is a lot to learn, therefore, you must be willing to put in the time to be successful. While the barrier of entry is virtually non-existent, very few are persistent enough to witness real and impressive results.

My advice is to stick with it, to remain patient, and to keep learning.

It’s a great way to create a second source of income

Finally, affiliate marketing it’s an excellent way to create a second source of income, especially when considering the very little initial investment. Once again, this brings us back to my point concerning time – if you’re willing to put in the time, you have the opportunity to make great money while spending little to no money in the process.

The bottom line

Affiliate marketing is mainstream at the moment, a current trend that has captured the eye of many keen entrepreneurs and those looking to supplement their income.

If you’re looking to earn a little more money and perhaps help customers in the process, then I recommend trying your hand at affiliate marketing.
